Ahab Flex Pens

The Noodler's Ahab Flex pens were finally released at Goulet Pens last week and I gotta say, they are were worth the wait! I love these pens; with a big flex nib and large ink capacity, they are awesome. I did only a few little sketches with the clear demonstrator over the holiday weekend, but I'm looking forward to getting into them. They're an incredible value at only 20 bucks and unlike the flex pen releases in the past, Goulet has plenty in stock.

GULP!  I swallowed up six Ahab pens in my order!

  1. I've been looking forward to this since they came out.... but mine is still in the mail. This only makes me do the pen dance more.

  2. You will be very pleased my friend!

I ordered a bottle of Nikita and Dragon Cafish to go along with six Ahabs... three to keep, three to give away.

Let me know how you make out with yours!

  3. Hey Tom now there's a coincidence! I just got my Ahab today in the mail and it's the yellow one. But omigosh, 3 Ahabs! You must be rich! :) I see you've already put them to good use, I really love those whales.

I haven't used mine yet. First, I washed the parts really well and soaked them in soapy water. Then, they will have to rest a while and dry up. Then, I will photograph it for my future review. After all this is done I can finally ink it up. Can't wait.

  4. Hey Penink!

I've learned from experience to stock up on the tools I like; once too often I come across a great item that gets retired or discontinued. And at 20 bucks each, it's not so bad!

I ran warm soapy water through my demonstrator before filling it too... you're way more patient than I am. It's a good idea though, start off in good working order. Looking forward to you review! I'm certain your photos will be far superior to mine!
(Your Tswibi review made me get one!!!!)

Thanks for the kind words and for commenting!!!!

  5. Very nice artwork. Outstanding in fact. I find it interesting that you can do that with a flex nibbled fountain pen. I'm headed to Dromgoole's here in Houston tomorrow and pick myself up one. I'm no artist, but I do like to write with them.
    Well done, Tom.

  6. Thanks C!
Your words are way too kind. I was trained on fountain pens.... Schaefer no nonsense pens in fact.... Our teacher wanted no pencils... Commit to your design in ink....

I'd love to know how you like your Ahab.... You really can't go wrong for only 20 bucks. The clear demonstrator really is great, it's cool to see the inner workings especially with colored ink.

  7. I have two of the older flex pens from Noodler's but have read a few different reports on the Ahabs which have left me uncertain whether to get one or not for my armoury (I really already have a lot of pens and dip pens/nibs!!:)I just looked at the link to your Havoc media...A lot of good work, especially the book covers there.... congratulations.

  9. Thanks for the kind words Rod, we keep pretty busy at Havoc.

I'm still lovin my Ahab everyone at Havoc digs theirs too. Looks like it can be a real workhorse. (They are quite different from the original flex pens... I use those too.) I have four, 2 clear demonstrators a yellow and Dec 25 red. I lean towards the clears because you can see you ink level and color if you use different inks... and they just look so cool. And for only 20 bucks, it's not that big of a gamble.
Let me know how you make out.

  10. Hey great pictures. I remember waiting all morning for the 12 O'clock release, Even with cable internet speeds the website was still so bogged down. for some glitch it placed 5 on my shopping cart lol. I had to hurry and cancel the order and start over... then afterwords I looked back at how many they had. almost 1000! all that worrying for nothing. I still haven't used it yet, maybe I'll feature it on the January Carnival.

  11. Hey Steve!
Five new Ahabs would not be the worst thing in the world! I did a mad dash on the release day as well; but was pleased to see that the good people at Goulet had a bumper crop too. Did not realize that some of the colors were clear... tactical error... I would have scooped up a few of them instead of the solid one I got.

Lemme know how you like yours after you've got a chance to ink it up.

    Thanks for commenting Steve!

  13. Hey Dozuki!

I am certain you'll be more happy drawing the way you do!
If you pick up an Ahab, be sure to get a sketchbook to go with it; and fill it up with sketches and drawings.
I do more bad drawings than good, believe me!
